A forward deployed engineer (FDE) is a software engineer who works inside a customer's business. They scope the real problem, build the AI or software solution on the customer's own data and systems, and stay through launch until it measurably works. It is one of the fastest-growing AI job titles of 2026.

The role, the pay, the hiring and a path from Kerala or the Gulf

This guide covers:

  • what the role involves;
  • what it pays in India, the UAE and Saudi Arabia;
  • who is hiring across the Gulf;
  • a realistic path into it from Kerala or from a job in the Gulf.

It also shows where our Agentic AI & Automation Systems and Data Analytics & Visualization with AI courses fit that path, and where they don't.

The demo class is held on our Kothamangalam campus; an online walkthrough is available on request.

Five things to know before you read on

  • The role is growing fast. Labour-market analysts Lightcast count US FDE job postings rising from fewer than 200 in 2023 to more than 7,300 in the first nine months of 2026.
  • The Gulf is hiring locally. FDE and forward-deployed roles have been advertised in 2026 in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh and Doha by companies including Presight, Mistral, Cohere, Salesforce and SAP.
  • The work has three parts: getting a client's data into shape, building the AI system, and delivering it with the client. Our Agentic AI course trains the AI-systems part. Our Data Analytics course trains the data part. Client delivery is practised in the internships.
  • It is a ladder, not a leap. Most people reach FDE roles through AI automation, implementation or data roles first. Senior FDE roles still ask for years of engineering experience.
  • Your Gulf experience counts. Domain knowledge from oil & gas, healthcare, banking or logistics is the half of FDE work that is hardest to teach.

What is a forward deployed engineer?

A forward deployed engineer is an engineer whose "office" is the customer. A product engineer builds one feature that thousands of customers use. An FDE takes one customer's messy, specific problem and makes the product actually work there. That means connecting it to their databases, adapting it to their workflows, and staying until people use it every day.

The name comes from military language: a forward-deployed unit sits close to the action, not back at base.

The role was popularised by Palantir in the early 2010s, where engineers on the "Delta" track embedded with clients. They were paired with "Echoes," deployment strategists who brought domain expertise. Palantir describes the split simply. A product developer works on one capability for many customers. A forward deployed engineer works on many capabilities for one customer. For years, Palantir had more FDEs than regular software engineers.

Other titles for the same work

Many job ads describe FDE work under a different title:

  • Forward Deployed AI Engineer
  • Forward Deployed Software Engineer (FDSE)
  • Applied AI Engineer
  • AI Deployment Engineer
  • AI Implementation Engineer or Specialist
  • Agent Engineer
  • Technical Deployment Lead

If you are job-hunting, search all of them.

Why AI companies suddenly need thousands of FDEs

Today's AI models are capable. The hard part is getting them working inside a real business, with its old databases, its approval chains, its Arabic and English documents, and its staff who need to trust the output. MIT's State of AI in Business 2025 study found that most enterprise generative AI pilots had not yet produced measurable business impact. The people who close that gap between a promising pilot and a system in daily use are forward deployed engineers.

The industry is now investing heavily in exactly this:

US$4bn+OpenAI Deployment Company, launched May 2026 with partner capital
US$1bnAWS commitment to forward-deployed engineering
10,000deployment engineers Anthropic is funding with US$100m by the end of 2027
3×Salesforce's FDE team growth in six months
  • OpenAI launched the OpenAI Deployment Company in May 2026 with more than US$4 billion from partners. It acquired a consultancy that brought around 150 FDEs and deployment specialists on day one.
  • AWS has committed US$1 billion to forward-deployed engineering.
  • Anthropic is putting US$100 million into training 10,000 deployment engineers by the end of 2027.
  • Accenture and Google Cloud are building a 1,000-person FDE workforce.
  • Consultancies are hiring heavily too. Deloitte and Accenture posted hundreds of FDE roles each in the US in January–September 2026 (Lightcast, via CNBC, October 2026).
  • Salesforce tripled its FDE team in six months. Around 40–50% of those moves were internal transfers from engineering, professional services and customer success. Salesforce's own summary of what it looks for is "curiosity over credentials."

The growth figures above are US data. No one has yet published verified FDE job-posting growth figures for India or the GCC. The Gulf job listings later in this guide show the same demand arriving here.

What does a forward deployed engineer actually do all day?

An analysis of 1,000 FDE job postings in 2026 estimated the time split at roughly 60% customer-facing work, 30% deployment code and 10% internal work. Travel varies by employer, from occasional to around half the time.

A typical week can include:

  • Running a discovery workshop to find which workflow is worth automating first
  • Connecting an AI model to the client's database, CRM or ERP through APIs
  • Building an AI agent or a document-search (RAG) assistant on the client's own data
  • Writing test sets that show whether the system is actually getting answers right
  • Debugging on live data when something behaves differently from the demo
  • Writing a handover guide the client's team can follow
  • Telling the product team what customers keep asking for

The three skill pillars

Data

SQL, Python, cleaning and joining the client's data, and building pipelines and dashboards. FDEs spend a large share of their time just getting customer data into usable shape. Palantir's main FDE platform is, at heart, a data platform.

AI systems

LLM APIs, prompt design, RAG, agents, workflow automation tools such as n8n, system integrations and evaluations.

Client delivery

Scoping the problem, explaining trade-offs to non-engineers, documenting, managing stakeholders, and staying calm when requirements change.

Underneath all three: production engineering. Git, a cloud platform (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud), containers and deployment. This is the layer that separates an automation specialist from an FDE.

In the Gulf, Arabic is a frequent plus. Several 2026 listings in Riyadh and Abu Dhabi ask for Arabic-speaking forward deployed engineers.

Forward deployed engineer salary in India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman

FDE pay data outside the US is still thin, and sources disagree. The table shows each figure with its source and date, so you can judge it yourself. "Crowd-sourced" means self-reported by employees. Small samples move a lot. These are published market figures, not claims about our own graduates.

How to read this. Published Gulf figures are mostly for adjacent titles such as machine learning engineer. FDE-titled roles in the Gulf are often senior or managerial and pay accordingly. Kerala does not yet have published FDE salary data. For Kerala-based talent, the bigger opportunities are remote roles for Bengaluru or global employers, or a move to the Gulf. We update this table every quarter.

Who is hiring forward deployed engineers in the Gulf and India?

Job listings change weekly, so treat the following as companies that advertised FDE or forward-deployed roles during 2026, not as current openings. Always check the company's own careers page.

UAE: Abu Dhabi and Dubai

  • Advertised FDE or forward-deployed roles: Presight (part of the G42 group), Mistral AI, Cohere, ElevenLabs, BCG X, Databricks, Gecko Robotics, Globant and Palantir.
  • Wider G42 group: companies such as Core42 and Inception42 hire for LLM, RAG and agent work.
  • National context: the UAE's National AI Strategy 2031 aims to make the country a global AI leader.
  • Demand trend: PwC's 2026 AI Jobs Barometer for the UAE found the share of job postings asking for AI skills rose from 1.0% in 2021 to 3.2% in 2025.

Saudi Arabia: Riyadh

  • Advertised FDE roles: Salesforce, SAP, AMD and Thoughtworks.
  • Humain: the Public Investment Fund's AI company, launched in May 2025, is building national AI infrastructure and hiring AI engineers.
  • Context: under Vision 2030, AI adoption across government, energy and finance is a stated national priority.

Qatar: Doha

  • Qai: Qatar's sovereign wealth fund launched Qai as its national AI company in December 2025. Qai announced a US$20 billion AI infrastructure partnership with Brookfield.
  • Palantir has advertised forward deployed roles in Doha.
  • What this means for jobs: national programmes are expanding AI across government services, and that needs people who can deploy it.

Oman: Muscat

  • National programme: Oman's National Programme for AI and Advanced Digital Technologies, under Vision 2040, aims to grow the digital economy to 10% of GDP by 2040.
  • AI zone: Oman announced a dedicated AI zone in Muscat in April 2026.
  • Job titles: FDE-titled roles are still rare in Oman. Implementation and automation roles are the realistic entry point here.

India and Kerala

  • Bengaluru: Sarvam AI has hired forward deployed software engineers for enterprise deployments with banks and insurers. Google Cloud and McKinsey's QuantumBlack have also advertised FDE roles.
  • Kerala: FDE-titled roles are not yet common at Infopark or Technopark. The large IT and consulting employers there do hire for AI delivery and implementation, which is the same skill set under a different title.

Why Kerala and Gulf Malayalis are well placed for this role

The hard-to-teach half of FDE work is understanding how a real business runs. Many Malayalis already have years of it.

  • The diaspora is large and Gulf-based. The Kerala Migration Survey 2023 estimated 2.2 million emigrants from Kerala, about 80% of them in the GCC. Many work inside exactly the sectors deploying AI now: oil & gas, healthcare, banking, logistics, retail and government services.
  • Kerala has the tech base. Infopark Kochi and Technopark Thiruvananthapuram together employ well over 1.4 lakh IT professionals. That is a pool of people who already know software delivery.
  • Language is a practical advantage. Many Gulf-based professionals work across English, Malayalam, Hindi and Arabic every day. Client-facing deployment roles value that.
  • The time zone fits. The UAE and Oman are 1.5 hours behind India, and Qatar and Saudi Arabia 2.5 hours. That makes India–Gulf delivery teams and live online learning practical.

If you have spent five years running a hospital's front office in Dubai, a warehouse in Jebel Ali or a project team in Riyadh, you already understand the workflows an FDE is sent in to improve. What you need to add is the ability to build.

How agentic AI and data analytics skills prepare you for FDE work

Look again at the three pillars: data, AI systems and client delivery. Our two most relevant courses map directly onto the first two. Their internships give you practice at the third.

Agentic AI & Automation Systems: the AI-systems pillar

This is the course for the "build the AI system" part of the job. Every week ends with something working. By the end you will have built:

  • n8n and Make.com automation workflows: multi-step pipelines connecting WhatsApp, CRM, email, forms and databases.
  • Multi-agent systems with CrewAI and LangChain, with an introduction to AutoGen: agents that research, plan and act together.
  • RAG and document Q&A assistants: AI that answers questions from a company's own documents.
  • WhatsApp Business API automation: lead qualification, follow-ups and customer support bots.
  • AI API integrations: OpenAI and Claude APIs wired into real business workflows.
  • Business-system integrations: CRM, Slack and Google Sheets pipelines for lead scoring and reporting.

Why it maps to FDE work. These are the same kinds of systems FDEs deploy for clients: agents connected to business systems through APIs, built on the client's own data.

The internship. The one-month internship is on automation projects for real Beeps Digital clients. Campus learners do it in-house at the agency; online learners, including those in the Gulf, do it remotely. That is where you practise the client-delivery pillar: understanding a brief, building to it, handling feedback and handing over. Those are the skills FDE interviews test.

₹22,250 online · ₹24,750 on campus 3 months, plus a 1-month internship on live Beeps Digital client projects

Data Analytics & Visualization with AI: the data pillar

Before any AI system works, someone has to find, clean, join and understand the client's data. This course (we call it Data Analytics with AI for short) trains that part of the job, with AI coding tools speeding you up from week one:

  • Python, Pandas and NumPy: cleaning and analysing real datasets, published as Kaggle notebooks.
  • SQL: joins, CTEs and window functions on real e-commerce data, plus an introduction to Google BigQuery and connecting SQL to Python.
  • Power BI and Looker Studio, with a Tableau introduction: multi-page business dashboards published online.
  • Machine learning basics: regression and churn or sales-forecast models with scikit-learn.
  • AI for analysts: ChatGPT for SQL and Python, plus an automated analytics report built in n8n.
  • A capstone project: a full pipeline from raw data to dashboard to presentation, using a real Kerala business dataset, with a public GitHub and Kaggle portfolio.

Why it maps to FDE work. FDE job specs repeatedly ask for SQL, Python and data pipelines. Several FDE hiring practices, including Deloitte's, explicitly accept candidates from data engineering, data science or analytics backgrounds. A data analyst who can also build agents is very close to what many FDE teams look for.

For Gulf professionals, there are industry-specific guides to the course for oil & gas, logistics and healthcare data. If you only need Excel, SQL and Power BI without Python, the lighter 1-month Excel, SQL & Power BI course (₹9,700) is the entry point.

₹19,500 same fee online or on campus 2 months (8 weeks), plus a 4-week external internship with partner companies in Kerala

Together, the two courses cover the data and AI-systems pillars and give you real client-project practice. Learners who take both typically follow the 2-month data track first, then the 3-month agentic track.

What neither course covers, and how to close the gap

We would rather say this clearly. Mainstream FDE roles also expect production engineering: deploying to a cloud platform, containers, CI/CD and systematic evaluation at production depth. These are learnable with free and low-cost resources once you have the foundations from the two courses.

Plan for 6–12 months of continued building after the courses. Ship real projects, learn one cloud platform and put your work on GitHub. Our trainers will point you to the resources we use ourselves.

A realistic career ladder: from AI automation to forward deployed engineer

Four steps. Most people spend longest on the third one, and that is where the portfolio comes from.

Around 1 month

Explore

Course: AI Kickstarter (₹4,750 online, 4 weeks) or AI Agents with n8n (₹7,750, online only, 4 weeks).

What you do: automate something real in your current job.

Roles: this is an add-on skill in your current role.

Around 3–5 months

Build the foundations

Courses: Data Analytics with AI, then Agentic AI & Automation Systems.

Typical roles: AI automation specialist, data or BI analyst, AI implementation specialist, n8n or agent builder.

Around 6–12 months

Ship and deploy

What you do: three to five deployed projects, one cloud platform, systematic evals and real client or internal work.

Typical roles: applied AI engineer, AI deployment engineer, solutions engineer, junior FDE.

The destination

Forward deployed engineer

How you get there: a track record of shipped, client-facing AI systems.

What senior roles ask for: senior FDE ads in the Gulf often ask for several years of engineering experience. One Abu Dhabi senior FDE listing in 2026 asked for 7–10 years.

What the timelines look like. Career-switch guides estimate 9–18 months from a non-engineering background to an FDE-adjacent role. Experienced developers and data engineers can move faster. Course fees and durations are from our published fee list.

Credits that reduce the cost: AI Kickstarter graduates get a ₹2,000 voucher towards a full course started within 60 days. If you take the n8n course and join Agentic AI within 90 days of completing it, the full ₹7,750 is credited against it.

Which starting point fits you?

Find the line closest to your situation. If none fits, tell us on WhatsApp and we will recommend one.

You work in the Gulf in a non-IT role

Operations, admin, sales, HR, logistics or healthcare admin. Start with AI Agents with n8n to automate part of your own team's work. That builds a portfolio inside your current job. Then add Data Analytics with AI. Your domain knowledge is your edge.

You work in the Gulf as an engineer, technician or IT support professional

Data Analytics with AI first, then Agentic AI & Automation. Aim for AI implementation roles inside your current employer or sector. Internal moves are a common route into FDE work.

You are an IT professional at Infopark, Technopark or a Gulf tech firm

Go straight to Agentic AI & Automation Systems. Add Data Analytics if SQL and data work are weak spots. Then focus your self-study on cloud deployment and evals.

You are a digital marketer

Agentic AI & Automation builds directly on the CRM, WhatsApp and ads automation you already touch. The AI Digital Marketing course is the alternative if you want to stay closer to marketing.

You are a commerce, management or engineering graduate in Kerala

Data Analytics with AI gives you an employable skill and a portfolio in two months. Agentic AI then moves you towards AI implementation work.

You are not sure yet

Start with AI Kickstarter. It ends with a recommendation on which longer track suits you, and the ₹2,000 voucher carries into that track.

Portfolio projects that get FDE-style interviews

Hiring managers for deployment roles want to see systems that ran on real data, not certificates. These five projects suit Kerala and Gulf employers.

  1. WhatsApp AI agent for a clinic or real-estate broker: booking, lead qualification and CRM sync in n8n with an LLM. (Agentic AI course)
  2. Bilingual document assistant: an English–Arabic or English–Malayalam RAG assistant over a set of public policy or FAQ documents, with a test set of 50+ questions scored before and after each change. (Agentic AI course, plus your own eval work)
  3. Logistics or retail sales dashboard: SQL plus Power BI on a real or realistic dataset, with a forecast model. (Data Analytics course)
  4. Automated weekly business report: data pulled by SQL, summarised by AI and sent by n8n to email or WhatsApp. This combines both courses in one project.
  5. Invoice or purchase-order extraction agent with human approval: for an SME or your own department. (Agentic AI course)

Document each project as you would for a client. Write down the problem, what you built, how you tested it and what changed. That write-up is what makes it an FDE-style portfolio piece.

Studying from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar or Oman

All our courses for Gulf learners are taught live online from our campus in Kothamangalam, Kerala. We do not have an office in the Gulf.

6:30–9:00 PMIndia time. The 2-month Data Analytics evening batch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Forward deployed engineer — FAQs

What is a forward deployed engineer?
A forward deployed engineer (FDE) is a software engineer who works inside a customer's business. They scope the problem, build the AI or software solution on the customer's own data and systems, and stay until it works in daily use. The role was popularised by Palantir and is now hired for widely by AI companies.
What does FDE stand for in AI?
FDE stands for Forward Deployed Engineer. You will also see Forward Deployed Software Engineer (FDSE), Forward Deployed AI Engineer, Applied AI Engineer and AI Deployment Engineer used for similar roles.
Is a forward deployed engineer the same as a solutions engineer?
No. A solutions engineer mainly supports the sale with demos and proofs of concept, and usually moves on once the deal closes. A forward deployed engineer builds and owns the working system after the sale, writing production code inside the customer's environment.
How much does a forward deployed engineer earn in India?
Published data varies. Glassdoor India showed an average total pay of about ₹14.6 lakh a year in October 2026. Levels.fyi showed a median of about ₹17.6 lakh, from a small sample. Both are crowd-sourced figures. No Kerala-specific FDE salary data has been published yet.
What do AI engineers earn in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia?
Glassdoor's Dubai median for machine learning engineers was AED 15,000 a month in October 2026. Hays' Saudi Arabia salary guide lists machine learning engineers at SAR 30,000 to 60,000 a month. FDE-titled roles in the Gulf are often senior or managerial and pay considerably more; one Databricks listing in the UAE advertised AED 400,000 to 700,000 a year for a senior manager.
Are there forward deployed engineer jobs in the UAE?
Yes. During 2026, FDE or forward-deployed roles were advertised in Abu Dhabi and Dubai by companies including Presight, Mistral AI, Cohere, ElevenLabs, BCG X and Databricks. Listings change often, so check company careers pages directly.
Do I need a computer science degree to become a forward deployed engineer?
Not always. Some employers hire on demonstrated skills, and internal transfers are common. Salesforce, for example, describes its approach as curiosity over credentials. You do need strong practical engineering skills, and senior roles usually ask for several years of experience.
How long does it take to become a forward deployed engineer?
For career switchers, guides estimate 9 to 18 months to an FDE-adjacent role. The usual route is a few months of foundations in data and AI systems, followed by 6 to 12 months of building and deploying real projects. Experienced developers and data engineers can move faster.
Which Beeps Academy course is best for a forward deployed engineer career?
Agentic AI & Automation Systems covers the AI-systems side: agents, RAG, n8n and integrations. Data Analytics & Visualization with AI covers the data side: Python, SQL and Power BI. Taking both covers two of the three FDE skill pillars, and the internships give client-project practice.
Can I study these courses online from the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia or Oman?
Yes. Gulf learners join live online classes in the evening. The 2-month Data Analytics evening batch runs 6:30 to 9:00 PM India time, which is 5:00 to 7:30 PM in the UAE and Oman and 4:00 to 6:30 PM in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Agentic AI runs evening and weekend batches confirmed to your hours when you apply. Recordings are available within 24 hours, and fees are charged in Indian rupees.
Can a non-IT professional working in the Gulf move into AI deployment work?
Yes, step by step. Start by automating work in your own team with n8n, then add data and agentic AI skills. Your industry knowledge from oil & gas, healthcare, logistics or banking is valuable, because FDE work means understanding how a real business runs.
Is forward deployed engineer just a hype title?
The title may evolve. Some analysts expect it to merge into applied AI engineer. The underlying skill of deploying AI into real business workflows is what employers are paying for. Build the skills and you can apply under whichever title is used.
