Beeps Academy teaches oil and gas professionals SQL, Python and Power BI in an 8-week course, Data Analytics with AI, live online from Kerala. The evening batch runs 6:30–9:00 PM India time, which is 5:00–7:30 PM in the UAE, and the fee is ₹19,500. Classes teach the tools on general business data; you apply them to oil and gas data through portfolio projects and the capstone, using public sources such as Equinor’s Volve field release.
Why it matters

Oil and gas already runs on data. Much of it still runs through Excel.

An operating asset produces more data than almost any other workplace: historian tags logging pressures and flow rates every few seconds, daily production and well-test reports, maintenance notifications and work orders, permit-to-work records, incident registers and contractor timesheets. Yet the monthly pack that reaches a manager is often assembled by hand, by someone copying exports from three systems into one workbook and hoping the totals reconcile.

National oil companies in the Gulf are investing heavily in the layer above that. At ADIPEC in November 2024, ADNOC and AIQ announced ENERGYai, an agentic AI system developed with G42 and Microsoft for tasks such as seismic analysis and process monitoring, as World Oil reported. Systems like that still depend on people who understand what sits underneath: what a tag measures, why an allocation was revised, which downtime codes the night shift uses loosely.

That is why the most direct route into analytics for many oil and gas staff is sideways. A production technician, maintenance planner or HSE officer who learns SQL and Power BI does not start from zero; they already know which numbers matter and which ones lie.

What you will be able to do

Six oil and gas questions, and how you will answer them

These are the kinds of questions a site or asset team asks every month. The right-hand column shows which part of the course gives you the method.

The questionWhere the data usually sitsHow you answer it
Which wells or trains lost the most production last quarter, and why?Daily production reports, allocation sheets and deferment or downtime logsJoin production and deferment tables in SQL, group losses by cause, and show them as a waterfall in Power BI
Is planned maintenance keeping pace with the plan?Work orders exported from SAP PM or IBM MaximoDAX measures for PM compliance and backlog, trended by craft, area and month
Which equipment fails most often, and how long is it down each time?Work-order history with failure codes and start and finish timesPandas to calculate mean time between failures and mean time to repair per equipment class, after removing impossible timestamps
Where are incidents and near misses clustering?HSE incident and near-miss registers, plus man-hours by contractorFrequency rates normalised by hours worked (per 200,000 or per million hours, whichever standard your company uses), compared by site and contractor
Is a well declining faster than its forecast?Monthly production by well and well-test resultsA simple exponential decline fitted in Python, using the regression taught in week 6, set against the forecast in one chart
Do booked contractor hours match the work actually done?Timesheets, purchase orders and labour bookings on work ordersA SQL reconciliation that lists every variance above a threshold for the cost controller to check

Systems and field names differ between companies. The method transfers; the column names are the only thing you relearn.

Where the data lives

The systems you will be pulling data from

Analysts in oil and gas rarely get a clean table. These are the usual sources, and the skill each one demands.

📈
Process historians
Tools such as AVEVA PI (formerly OSIsoft PI) store sensor readings at intervals of seconds or minutes. You will usually pull averaged values into Excel or Power BI rather than query raw tags, so resampling and aligning time series in Pandas is the skill that pays off.
🔧
Maintenance systems
SAP PM and IBM Maximo hold notifications, work orders, failure codes and labour hours. Their exports are untidy: free-text descriptions, codes used inconsistently, missing finish dates. Cleaning them reliably is half of any reliability analysis.
📋
Production and HSE registers
Daily reports, allocation workbooks, incident logs and permit records often live in spreadsheets or small databases. The work is reconciling figures that should agree and finding out why they do not.
📊
Reporting tools
Many upstream teams use Spotfire; corporate and finance functions lean towards Power BI. The course teaches Power BI, with Tableau Public and Looker Studio, and the habits of data modelling and clear charts carry over to whichever tool your employer runs.
The course, mapped to your work

How each block of the 8 weeks applies to oil and gas

Every learner follows the same syllabus, set out week by week on the Data Analytics with AI course page. Here is where each block lands in an oil and gas job.

🐍
Weeks 1–2 · Python & Pandas
Read a messy work-order export, standardise failure codes, fill or flag missing finish times, and resample historian data from minutes to daily averages without losing the shutdown periods.
🗄️
Week 3 · SQL
Join production, deferment and well master tables. Use window functions to compare each well with its own previous month instead of the field average.
📊
Weeks 4–5 · Power BI
Build a production and deferment report with a page for maintenance KPIs. Write DAX measures for uptime and PM compliance that a supervisor can filter by area without breaking.
📉
Week 6 · Machine learning basics
Fit trends and simple decline curves, and learn when not to trust a model: a failure prediction trained on thirty failures will look accurate and mean very little.
🤖
Week 7 · AI tools and n8n
Use ChatGPT or Claude to draft SQL and explain errors, then automate a weekly summary in n8n that reaches the right inbox without anyone rebuilding it on a Sunday night.
🎯
Week 8 · Capstone
One end-to-end project on an oil and gas dataset: question, cleaning, analysis, dashboard and a short presentation of what the numbers mean for operations.
Portfolio

Three portfolio projects you can build without your employer’s data

Operator data is almost always confidential, so anything you publish should come from public or synthetic sources. These three are good starting points.

🌊
Volve field production dashboard
In 2018 Equinor and its partners released the full data set from Volve, a North Sea field that produced from 2008 to 2016: around 40,000 files, including production data. Equinor’s Volve data-sharing page grants students and researchers use of it under the Equinor Open Data Licence. Build per-well oil, gas and water trends and a water-cut view in Power BI.
🇳🇴
Field decline comparison
The Norwegian Offshore Directorate publishes monthly production for each field on its FactPages. Pull several fields, fit a decline trend for each in Python, and compare how quickly they fell off plateau using SQL.
🛠️
Maintenance KPI pack
Generate a realistic work-order table yourself in Python, with the columns a maintenance export really has and some deliberately messy rows, then calculate MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance and backlog. It shows an interviewer the cleaning skill they care about most.
🔒
Your own data, carefully
If your employer agrees in writing, an anonymised extract can become your capstone. Strip site, well and contractor names, shift the dates, and keep the published version to aggregates. If in doubt, use one of the public sets above.
Confidentiality

Using ChatGPT and Claude without leaking operator data

AI assistants are part of the course from the first week: they draft Python and SQL, explain error messages and summarise a dashboard in plain English. In oil and gas that comes with a catch. Production figures, reservoir data and contract rates are commercially sensitive, and many operators restrict public AI tools or provide an approved internal version instead.

So the course teaches a few habits that keep you on the right side of your company’s rules. Describe the structure, not the data: give the assistant column names and three invented rows, never a real export. Keep real data inside tools your employer has approved. Check every figure an assistant produces against the source table before it goes anywhere. Where your company’s IT policy and our advice differ, follow the policy.

Employers notice the checking far more than the prompting. An analyst who can show how they verified a number is worth more than one who can get an answer quickly.

Careers

Where this can take you, and where it will not

🏗️
Inside your current employer
The most realistic first step: become the person on the site or asset team who builds the production report, the maintenance dashboard or the HSE monthly pack. Many people move internally before they change company.
💼
Analyst roles in operators, service companies and EPCs
Job titles include production data analyst, reliability or maintenance analyst, HSE data analyst, reporting analyst and Power BI developer. They usually ask for industry experience plus SQL and a BI tool, which is the combination this course adds to.
⚙️
Engineers adding data skills
Petroleum, mechanical, chemical and instrumentation engineers use Python and SQL to get more from well, equipment and process data without waiting for a central data team.
↗️
What eight weeks will not do
It will not make you a data scientist or replace training in reservoir simulation or other specialist petroleum software. There is no job guarantee, and we do not quote salaries; recent postings on LinkedIn or Bayt for your target role are the honest guide.
Timings and fee

Fitting the course around Gulf hours or a rotation

The standard evening batch meets two evenings a week, Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday, from 6:30 to 9:00 PM India time. For someone working in Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Muscat that is 5:00–7:30 PM; in Dhahran, Riyadh, Doha, Kuwait City or Bahrain it is 4:00–6:30 PM. Every session is recorded and the recording is shared within 24 hours.

Rotational work is the harder case. On a 14/14 or 28/28 pattern you might attend live during your days off and catch up from recordings during your hitch, and offshore connectivity is often too limited for live video. That suits some people and not others, so tell us your rotation before you pay and we will say plainly whether it is realistic.

The fee is ₹19,500, charged in Indian rupees, with instalments available. If you would rather be taught in Malayalam, see the Malayalam-medium online batch. For more on studying from the Gulf, including the weekend option, read online data analytics and AI courses for UAE professionals.

Straight answers

Three things to know before you enquire

We teach data, not petroleum engineering. Our trainers build analytics and automation systems for Beeps Digital clients; they are not reservoir or production engineers. You bring the industry knowledge, and the course gives you the tools to put it to work.

There is no Beeps office in the Gulf. The academy is in Nellikuzhi, Kothamangalam, Kerala. Gulf learners take the course live online, and the 4-week internship attached to it is arranged with partner companies in Kerala, so it only suits people who will be in Kerala for it.

The certificate records training, not a qualification. It is issued by Beeps Digital Private Limited and is not a degree or an industry accreditation. What persuades a hiring manager in Ruwais or Kochi is a dashboard they can open and a project you can explain.

Frequently Asked Questions

Data analytics for oil and gas — FAQs

Do I need a coding background to join?
No. Week 1 starts with Python basics, and AI assistants are used from the start to draft and explain code, so you learn to read and correct it before you write it from scratch. If you are comfortable with Excel formulas and pivot tables, you have enough to begin.
Will the classes use oil and gas data?
The classes teach the tools on general business datasets, the same syllabus every learner follows. You apply them to oil and gas through your portfolio projects and capstone, using public sources such as Equinor’s Volve data set or the Norwegian Offshore Directorate’s production figures, or an anonymised extract your employer has approved in writing.
I work a 28/28 rotation offshore. Can I still do the course?
Possibly. Sessions are recorded and shared within 24 hours, so you can attend live during your days off and catch up during your hitch. Offshore internet is often too limited for live classes, and falling four weeks behind is hard to recover from, so tell us your rotation before you enrol and we will give you an honest answer.
My company uses Spotfire, not Power BI. Is the course still useful?
Yes. The course teaches Power BI, Tableau Public and Looker Studio, and the skills that matter most, such as data modelling, clean measures and clear charts, carry over to Spotfire. SQL and Python are the same whichever reporting tool your employer runs.
What time are the classes in Saudi Arabia, Qatar or the UAE?
The evening batch runs 6:30–9:00 PM India time, two evenings a week. That is 5:00–7:30 PM in the UAE and Oman, and 4:00–6:30 PM in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. Recordings are shared within 24 hours if a shift or a meeting runs late.
How much does the course cost?
The fee is ₹19,500 for the 8-week course, charged in Indian rupees, with instalments available. Python, MySQL, Power BI Desktop, Tableau Public and the free tiers of the AI tools used in class cost nothing extra.
Will this get me a data analyst job in oil and gas?
It gives you the skills and a portfolio that oil and gas analyst roles ask for, but there is no job guarantee. The most common first move is inside your current employer, building the reports your team already needs. We do not quote salaries because pay varies too widely by company, country and contract.
