Professional Data Analytics: Excel, SQL & Power BI in One Month
Last updated: 22 October 2026
Twelve live sessions, 24 contact hours, three portfolio pieces. Every topic passed one test: will an analyst use this in their first month on the job? Excel gets four sessions, SQL three, Power BI four, and the last one is your capstone and an interview drill. Nothing is skimmed; what does not pass the test is left out and named below.

What this course is, and what it deliberately leaves out
This is the Excel, SQL and Power BI spine of our 2-month Data Analytics & Visualization with AI course, taught on its own and taught deeper. It is for people who already open Excel every day and want to be the person who answers the question, not the person who forwards it. A graduate can clean a messy file in Power Query, answer business questions with SQL joins, CTEs and window functions, build a Power BI model with the measures a manager asks for, and present a finding in five minutes.
It does not cover Python, Tableau, statistics or machine learning. Squeezing them into 24 hours would make every block shallow, so they stay in the 2-month course. It uses the same datasets and the same e-commerce database as that course, so if you continue, nothing is repeated.
Employers test a small, stable core in all three tools. Indian analyst job ads list SQL, Excel and Power BI together more often than any other combination, SQL interviews keep returning to joins, GROUP BY with HAVING, NULL handling, CTEs and window functions, and the Power BI skills employers ask about follow the shape of Microsoft's PL-300 study guide: prepare, model, visualise, manage. So the course goes deep on that core and skips the long tail.
Four blocks, each ending with something you can show
Twelve sessions over four weeks, three a week, two hours each. Every block closes with a deliverable, not a quiz.
| Block | Sessions | Hours | Ends with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advanced Excel | 1–4 | 8 | A one-page Excel dashboard built on a Power Query clean |
| SQL | 5–7 | 6 | 15 business questions answered on one database, with a finding for each |
| Power BI | 8–10, plus hour 1 of 11 | 7 | A star-schema model, core DAX, a one-page dashboard exported to PDF |
| Capstone and careers | Hour 2 of 11, and 12 | 3 | A capstone presented in 5 minutes, plus an interview drill |
Built from what employers actually test, not from a tool catalogue
The curriculum was cut down from a longer syllabus by checking each topic against job ads, interview question banks and the Microsoft PL-300 outline. Here is what shaped it.
Four weeks, twelve sessions
Each session is two hours: the first hour teaches, the second hour builds. Every Excel and SQL exercise runs on the same store orders, restaurant and e-commerce datasets, so you watch one business get clearer each week.
Session by session
| Session | What is taught | You leave with |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Clean data and the analyst's habits: Excel Tables, sort and filter, TRIM and PROPER, Text to Columns, Flash Fill, Remove Duplicates, data validation, conditional formatting | A cleaned file and a cleaning log with a business reason for every fix |
| 2 | Formulas that answer questions: IF, IFS, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, absolute references, XLOOKUP vs VLOOKUP vs INDEX-MATCH, FILTER, UNIQUE, SORT, EOMONTH, NETWORKDAYS | An order sheet that pulls price and region from a second sheet and flags late deliveries |
| 3 | PivotTables, GROUPBY and PIVOTBY, then Power Query: import, clean, append a folder of monthly files, unpivot a wide report, Refresh | A pivot that updates itself and a Power Query that replays every step |
| 4 | The Excel dashboard: chart from the question, PivotCharts, slicers and timeline, KPI cells, sparklines, the 5-second test; Agent Mode demo; Excel checkpoint quiz | Portfolio piece 1: the Excel dashboard workbook |
| 5 | SQL 1: MySQL Workbench, SELECT, WHERE, ORDER BY, LIMIT, IN, BETWEEN, LIKE, IS NULL, DISTINCT, aggregates, GROUP BY, WHERE vs HAVING, the order SQL runs in | Verified totals on the e-commerce database |
| 6 | SQL 2: INNER and LEFT JOIN, customers who never ordered, join fan-out and COUNT(DISTINCT), UNION, CASE WHEN, the four-step method before typing | Ten of the 20 business questions answered with a one-line finding each |
| 7 | SQL 3: subquery to CTE, ROW_NUMBER, RANK, DENSE_RANK, top-N per group, running total, LAG; timed interview round in pairs | Portfolio piece 2: the SQL file on GitHub, a finding under every query |
| 8 | Power BI 1: the free-tier truth, Report, Data and Model views, Power Query again, locale-aware dates, fact and dimension tables, the star schema, a marked Date table | A working data model with one proving visual |
| 9 | Power BI 2: measures vs calculated columns, SUM, COUNTROWS, DISTINCTCOUNT, DIVIDE, CALCULATE, ALL, RELATED, TOTALYTD, DATEADD, month-on-month % | A Measures table; capstone dataset generated and cleaned as homework |
| 10 | Power BI 3: the dashboard from a wireframe, interactions, drill-down and drill-through, custom tooltip, bookmarks, the ten design rules, export to PDF | Portfolio piece 3: the Power BI report PDF plus .pbix |
| 11 | Power BI 4: Power BI Service, scheduled refresh and gateways in concept, one RLS role, Performance Analyzer, Copilot in Power BI in brief; then the capstone build block | A capstone dashboard that passes the 5-second test |
| 12 | Capstone presentations: 5 minutes plus 2 minutes of questions each; rapid-fire interview round; one finding-first resume bullet per student; certificate check | Your capstone presented, and the next step into the 2-month course |
Capstone scope, fixed at Session 9: one persona, three business questions, one cleaned file, five SQL queries, one dashboard page, five minutes.
Three portfolio pieces, a certificate, and free badges earned as homework
Homework is 3 to 4 hours a week, about half the load of the 2-month course, so a working professional can finish it. It is where the free certificates are earned.
Software, laptop and what to install before each week
Before Session 1: Microsoft Excel, ideally Microsoft 365. Excel 2021 has XLOOKUP and FILTER but not GROUPBY or PIVOTBY; Excel 2016 and 2019 have neither, so the INDEX-MATCH fallback is taught for those students. We confirm your version at enrolment.
Before Session 5: MySQL Community Server and MySQL Workbench, both free. If your machine will not run them, DB Browser for SQLite with the same database is the fallback.
Before Session 8: Power BI Desktop, free from Microsoft. It runs only on Windows, so Mac students need access to a Windows machine for Weeks 3 and 4.
Laptop: Windows, 8 GB RAM minimum. Prerequisite: you can write a basic Excel formula. That is all. No coding at any point.
Deliberately left out, and where each lives instead: Python, Tableau, statistics and machine learning (the 2-month course); VBA and macros (Power Query now does most of that work); Power Pivot and DAX inside Excel (taught properly in Power BI instead); Goal Seek, Scenario Manager and Data Tables (optional homework with a short guide); LAMBDA, LET and array-shaping functions (power-user territory, not first-job territory); DirectQuery, calculation groups, paginated reports, gateway setup, dynamic RLS and Fabric (PL-300 tests some of these, so the course prepares you to self-study for PL-300 rather than claiming you will pass it).
Who this suits, and who should pick something else
Live online, built around a working week
This course has no offline batch. Every session is delivered live online, three times a week, so there is no commute and students join from Kochi, Ernakulam, Kakkanad, Aluva, Thrissur, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kollam, Kannur, Palakkad, Kottayam, Idukki, Muvattupuzha, Perumbavoor and Thodupuzha, from the rest of India, and from the Gulf. Session days and timings are confirmed when you enrol.
Sessions are trainer-led, and the trainer circulates during every build block, because the moment a Power Query step fails silently or a join doubles your revenue is exactly when someone needs to look at your screen. The datasets, the e-commerce database and the DAX files are the same ones used in our 2-month data analytics course, verified figure by figure, so a wrong total is caught in class rather than discovered later.
The academy behind the course is Beeps Digital - AI & Automation Academy at Nellikuzhi, Kothamangalam, in Ernakulam district, the training arm of Beeps Digital, a working agency that builds reporting and automation systems for its own clients. If you would rather see something in person first, the free demo class runs every Saturday at the campus.
