The local market

Why Kothamangalam is not a small-town clinic market

On paper Kothamangalam is a mid-sized municipality. In practice it serves a catchment far larger than its own population. It sits on the Kochi–Munnar road (NH85) where the plains end and the climb to the high ranges begins, so families from Kuttampuzha, Neriamangalam, Keerampara and the plantation belt come down here for the doctor, the dentist and the lab.

The town also has an unusual concentration of dentists. Two dental colleges sit within a few kilometres of each other — the Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences at Nellikuzhi and Mar Baselios Dental College, attached to the 300-bed Mar Baselios Medical Mission Hospital — and the town has an Ayurveda medical college too. Every year a new batch of graduates starts practising somewhere between Perumbavoor and Thodupuzha, and many open their first clinic close to where they trained.

That makes dental competition here denser than the town’s size suggests. A new practice cannot rely on word of mouth for its first year. It has to show up on Google Maps from the week it opens.

Patients also weigh local care against the 53 km drive to Kochi. Local clinics win that decision on three things: being findable, having clear timings, and answering the phone. Most of our work in this market is making those three things true online.

What we do for each kind of practice in Kothamangalam

Dental clinics

Stand out in a town full of dentists

When the next clinic down the road is run by someone from your own batch, generic “complete dental care” copy makes you invisible.

  • A page for each treatment you want more of — implants, aligners, root canal, paediatric — with the fee band where you choose to publish it
  • Dentist profiles showing qualifications exactly as registered, and no specialist titles you do not hold
  • Google profile categories, services and photos of your actual chairs, set up correctly once
  • A review request after every visit, sent to everyone and never paid for

Medical clinics & polyclinics

Make the OP timetable findable

Visiting specialists sit on fixed days. Patients who drive down from the high ranges need to know which day before they set off.

  • A page per doctor with OP days and times, kept in step with the Google profile’s “more hours”
  • Lab and diagnostic pages that answer “do I need to fast?” before the phone rings
  • WhatsApp enquiries answered at once; the booking is confirmed by your staff, not a bot
  • Reminders the day before, which matter most for patients travelling in from the hills

Ayurveda centres

Two audiences on one road

Centres around Kothamangalam treat local patients with long-running conditions, and see travellers heading to Munnar and Thekkady.

  • Therapy pages that describe the procedure, duration and what to expect — never a promised cure
  • Malayalam pages for local patients and English pages for travellers, each with its own URL
  • Enquiry flows for 7-, 14- and 21-day programmes that collect dates and needs before a call
  • Copy checked against the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act before it is published

Kerala’s advertising rules

What a Kothamangalam clinic may and may not say

Most clinics here advertise less than the rules allow, and a few say things the rules forbid. Both cost patients. This is the short version; each rule names the instrument it comes from.

You may

  • Run a factual website listing your treatments and their fees — the Dentists’ Code of Ethics 2014 says so in terms (Regulations 8.2.9 and 5.7.1)
  • List the clinic on Google and online directories (Regulation 8.2.8)
  • Announce new equipment or a new service, stated plainly (Regulation 8.2.7)
  • Publish your doctors’ qualifications, languages, hours and OP days as they actually are
  • Share educational posts by your own doctors

You may not

  • Claim to be better than other practitioners — “most advanced”, “first in the district”
  • Advertise a medicine or remedy as treating any disease listed in the schedule to the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954
  • Publish “from ₹X” prices that few patients actually pay — the CCPA’s 2022 guidelines treat that as bait advertising
  • Offer discounts or gifts for Google reviews, which also breaks Google’s own policy
  • Run promotional camps or handbills aimed at schools and colleges (dental Regulation 8.1.2)

Kerala may also require you to display your rates. Section 39 of the Kerala Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2018 asks establishments to display the rates for each service at a conspicuous place. The Kerala High Court upheld the Act in November 2025, and the matter then went to the Supreme Court, so its current status needs checking before you act on it.

The full detail, with every clause, is in our guides to medical advertising rules in India and dental clinic marketing in Kerala. Dental ethics now sit with the National Dental Commission, which replaced the Dental Council of India in March 2026; your first point of contact is still the Kerala Dental Council.

For new graduates

Opening your first clinic near Kothamangalam: the first 90 days

Most new clinics we meet did the fit-out first and the marketing last. The order below costs less and gets the phone ringing sooner.

Before opening

Get found before the board goes up

Register the establishment, then create the Google Business Profile at the real address — verification is now usually by video, so do it while you can still film the premises. Pick the primary category carefully. Set up a WhatsApp Business number your front desk will actually hold.

Weeks 1–4

A site that answers questions

One page per treatment you want to grow, in English and Malayalam, with your fees if you choose to publish them. Add a profile for each dentist or doctor. Ask every patient for a review from the first week — the first twenty reviews do the most work.

Weeks 5–8

Stop losing the enquiries you get

Missed calls get an automatic WhatsApp reply within a minute. Appointment reminders go out the day before. A recall list starts for six-month check-ups, so the patients you already have come back.

Weeks 9–12

Spend on ads only once you can measure

With a tracked number and working treatment pages, a small Google Ads budget on two or three treatments shows what an enquiry really costs. Before that, the money mostly buys clicks you cannot trace.

Working with us

How we work with clinics in Kothamangalam

We come to you

The audit happens at your clinic. We see the signboard patients see, sit at the front desk while the phone rings, and check whether the Google pin actually lands at your door. You cannot learn those things on a video call.

Malayalam written by people who speak it

Your Malayalam pages, posts and WhatsApp replies are written by our team, not a translation widget. Patients notice the difference, and so do search engines, which index only the text your server sends.

Everything stays in your name

Domain, website, Google profile and ad accounts belong to the clinic, with us as a manager. If you ever move on, everything stays with you and our access is simply removed.

What we can show you

We have not yet published healthcare case studies, and we will not invent any. What you can check: our registered company, our office a short drive from your clinic, the monthly report format we will use, and the fact that every rule on this page names its source.

Questions

What Kothamangalam clinic owners ask us

Do you really visit clinics in Kothamangalam?
Yes. Our office is in Nellikuzhi, near the Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, so most clinics in and around Kothamangalam are a short drive away. The audit is done at your clinic, Monday to Saturday, and you keep the findings whether or not you hire us.
I have just finished BDS and am opening a clinic nearby. Where should I start?
Start with the Google Business Profile at your real address before you open, then a website with one page per treatment you want to grow. Leave paid ads until you have a tracked phone number and working pages. The 90-day plan on this page is the order we recommend.
Can a dental clinic in Kothamangalam publish its fees online?
Yes. The Revised Dentists (Code of Ethics) Regulations, 2014 permit a factual website that carries treatment details and fees, and state there is no bar on displaying fees in the clinic. Kerala’s Clinical Establishments Act may also require rates to be displayed if your clinic offers more than consultation, though the Act is before the Supreme Court, so check its current status.
Should our clinic advertise in Malayalam or English?
Both, with separate pages for each. Most local patients search and message in Malayalam or Manglish, while travellers and younger patients often search in English. Very few clinics in the town publish real Malayalam pages, so that is usually the cheapest visibility gain available.
We run an Ayurveda centre on the Munnar road. Who should we be targeting?
Usually two groups: local patients with long-term conditions, who search in Malayalam and book by WhatsApp, and travellers heading to the hills, who search in English and plan ahead. Each needs its own pages. Neither should see a promised cure, which the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act restricts.
How much does clinic marketing cost?
We scope each clinic rather than sell packages, because a single-chair practice and a multi-specialty polyclinic are different jobs. The audit costs nothing, and you leave it with a written scope and a price. Any ad spend goes on your own account and is never marked up.
Do you also work with clinics in Muvattupuzha, Perumbavoor and Thodupuzha?
Yes, and the audit is in person there too. Many of the practices we speak to draw patients from more than one of these towns, so we plan the pages and the Google profiles for the whole catchment rather than one town at a time.
Can you guarantee more patients?
No. Nobody controls Google’s rankings or a patient’s choice, and a guarantee of results is itself the kind of claim clinics should be wary of. We commit to the work, to tracking every enquiry, and to reporting honestly what the work produced.
