A Kerala study abroad consultancy runs on two calendars at once. Overseas intakes set the deadlines: UK September and January, Canada September, January and May, Australia February and July, Germany’s winter and summer semesters, Ireland mainly September, New Zealand February or March and July. Kerala sets when families can decide: Plus Two and degree results, Christmas, Vishu, Onam and the weeks Gulf parents are home. Plan campaigns backwards from each deadline, and time seminars to the family calendar.

Why a consultancy’s year runs on two calendars at once

A clothes shop in Kochi plans around Onam and Christmas. A study abroad consultancy has to plan around those too, and around university deadlines in Manchester, Toronto, Munich and Melbourne. The two rarely line up.

The overseas calendar decides when a student must have applied, paid a deposit or booked a visa appointment. The Kerala calendar decides when a family is able to think about it at all: after the Plus Two results, once degree marks are out, when the father is home from Dubai for the summer, when the whole family meets for Onam. Advertising that ignores the first arrives too late. Advertising that ignores the second arrives when nobody is listening.

The calendar below sets both side by side for October 2026 to September 2027. Every overseas date links to the university, the government or the official body that published it, and any date we could not confirm is marked as expected. Check each against the source before you print it, because universities move their own deadlines and a wrong date costs trust.

It is written for consultancies and for the IELTS, OET and German institutes whose batches feed them.

The main intakes, checked against official and university sources

  • United Kingdom. September is the main intake; some taught master’s also start in January. For undergraduate entry in 2027, UCAS’s deadline is 18:00 UK time on 13 January 2027, with 15 October 2026 for Oxford, Cambridge and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses (UCAS). Students can apply for the visa up to six months before the course starts, and a decision usually takes about three weeks from outside the UK (gov.uk).
  • Canada. Many colleges and universities admit in September, January and May, with fewer programmes in January and May. Deadlines are set by each institution: Carleton University, for example, lists 15 October 2026 for January 2027 and 1 April 2027 as its main international deadline (Carleton).
  • Australia. The academic year runs from February or March to November, with a mid-year start in July; mid-year applications usually open around April (Study Australia).
  • Germany. The winter semester starts in September or October and the summer semester in March or April. DAAD gives the usual application windows as early May to 15 July for winter and early December to 15 January for summer; private universities may differ (DAAD).
  • Ireland. September is the main intake, with a smaller number of postgraduate programmes starting in January. We found no single official calendar, so confirm each university’s dates.
  • New Zealand. Semester one at the University of Auckland begins on 1 March 2027 (Auckland calendar); the second semester usually starts in July, with dates published by each university.

Kerala’s own dates: results, festivals and the Gulf holidays

Plus Two results. Kerala’s Higher Secondary results for 2026 were announced on 26 May 2026, with about 4.52 lakh students sitting the exams (Onmanorama). The 2027 date is not yet announced; plan for late May and adjust once the board confirms it. The weeks after results are when undergraduate-abroad conversations start in earnest.

Degree results. Final-semester results from Kerala’s universities tend to arrive between May and July, varying by university and course. Students applying for a master’s abroad often wait for them before they commit. 2027 also matters because Kerala’s four-year undergraduate programme began in July 2024 and lets students leave after three years with a degree (Onmanorama). If the first batch keeps to schedule, mid-2027 is when those students choose between exiting and a fourth year, and parents will ask you how universities abroad view each.

Festivals. Christmas on 25 December; Vishu, expected on 14 or 15 April 2027 (the state holiday list will confirm); and Onam, with Thiruvonam on 12 September 2027. Families gather, and big decisions get discussed at the table.

Gulf school holidays. The UAE Ministry of Education calendar puts the winter break from 14 December 2026, spring break from 5 April 2027 and the last school day on 2 July 2027 (UAE MoE). Other Gulf states and Indian-curriculum schools set their own dates, but these windows are when many parents fly home.

Policy dates that change what you can say in your ads

Three policy changes fall inside this calendar, and each one alters the message rather than just the timing.

UK Graduate route. Students who apply on or before 31 December 2026 get two years; applications made on or after 1 January 2027 get 18 months, with doctoral graduates keeping three years (gov.uk). Anyone starting a UK master’s in September 2027 will graduate under the 18-month rule, so every creative, brochure and web page that says “two-year post-study work” needs changing before your September 2027 campaigns begin.

Canada’s study permit cap. IRCC set 2026 at 408,000 study permits, 7% below 2025’s 437,000, and from 1 January 2026 master’s and doctoral students at public institutions no longer need a provincial attestation letter (IRCC). Watch for the figure IRCC sets for 2027 and update your Canada pages the week it is published.

Google’s government-documents policy. Since 5 October 2026, only advertisers a government has explicitly authorised may promote obtaining documents such as visas (Google Ads policy). Before the January-intake push, audit every ad and landing page: write them around counselling, courses and admissions, and expect visa-help wording to be restricted. Our Google Ads guide for study abroad consultants explains the rule in full.

What each channel does at each point in the year

The calendar says when. The channel decides how the message lands.

  • Meta ads work early, when families are still deciding whether to go and where. Video on costs and outcomes, lead forms for seminars, and click-to-WhatsApp ads aimed at parents as well as students. Raise spend ahead of seminars and festivals, not in deadline weeks. The Meta ads guide for consultancies covers audiences and creative.
  • Google Search works late, when the decision is made and the student types a course, a country and a year. Keep brand campaigns running all year and raise non-brand bids in the six to eight weeks before each deadline.
  • SEO works all year but needs updates timed to the calendar: each country page reviewed before its main window opens, and dated so readers can see it is current. Our SEO guide for study abroad consultants sets out the routine.
  • Seminars and open days work when families are together: the last fortnight of December, the week after Plus Two results, July weekends and after Onam.
  • WhatsApp follow-ups carry the deadline reminders: documents due, deposit dates, visa slots. Send template messages only to people who opted in, and answer replies fast; our WhatsApp Business API guide explains the set-up.

Much of the budget wasted in education marketing sits in the gap between these: Meta money spent in deadline week, or Search money spent in October on intakes nobody can still make.

For IELTS, OET and German institutes: run a season ahead

A language institute’s calendar is the consultancy calendar moved earlier. A student needs a valid test score, or a certificate at the required level, before the university application, not before the semester starts. So the batch has to finish before the window opens.

In practice that means:

  • German batches aimed at the 2027 winter semester had to start long before May 2027; batches starting now are realistically aimed at later intakes, and your ads should say which.
  • English-test batches should end several weeks before the main deadlines above, so a student who needs a second attempt still has time.
  • Results week in May and the degree-results weeks in June bring a fresh wave of students who have just decided to go; start new batches to catch them.
  • Gulf holidays suit short, intensive batches for students who are visiting Kerala.

Score and pass claims in coaching ads fall under the CCPA’s 2024 coaching guidelines, which bar guaranteed results and set rules for showing successful candidates (News on AIR). Our language institute marketing page covers how we run campaigns for institutes, with separate guides for German institutes and IELTS and OET coaching.

Your own enquiry history is the calendar that matters most

The dates above are the frame. Your own records fill it in. A consultancy in Kothamangalam whose students mostly go to Germany for nursing has a different year from a Kochi office sending engineers to Canada.

Before you commit next year’s budget, pull three things from the past twelve months:

  1. Enquiries by week, split by country and by source: Meta, Google, walk-in, referral, WhatsApp.
  2. Applications and enrolments by month, so you can see the lag between first enquiry and decision for each country.
  3. Search Console clicks by country page, which shows when interest rises before anyone fills in a form.

Lay those over this calendar. Where your enquiries peak before ours, move your spend earlier. Where a country has gone quiet, find out why before cutting it: a rule change or a stale page is often the cause. If you have no clean records, start keeping them now, with one CRM and the same source tags on every lead; our note on follow-up automation for institutes shows how.

The short version

Work backwards from each overseas deadline, and time anything that needs a family conversation to the Kerala calendar: results weeks, the Gulf holidays, Christmas, Vishu and Onam. Meta and seminars early; Google Search in the last two months before a deadline; WhatsApp reminders through the deadline itself; page updates before each window opens. Change your UK messaging for the 18-month Graduate route before the September 2027 campaigns, watch for Canada’s 2027 figure, and keep visa-help wording out of every ad and landing page.

If you would like this calendar turned into a campaign plan for your consultancy or institute, our study abroad consultant marketing page explains how we work, and we meet clients in Kochi and central Kerala in person by appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should a Kerala consultancy start marketing for the September 2027 intake?
Earlier than most do. Meta campaigns and seminars aimed at families work from October to December 2026, when parents are deciding on a country. Google Search should rise from January, ahead of UCAS’s 13 January deadline for undergraduates and spring deadlines such as Carleton’s 1 April date for international students. By May and June the work is mostly follow-up: deposits, documents and visa appointments.
Which months bring the most study abroad enquiries in Kerala?
It depends on your countries and courses, so check your own records. The common peaks are the weeks after Plus Two results in late May, the degree-results season from May to July, and the Christmas and summer windows when Gulf-based parents are home. Enquiries for January intakes peak in early autumn. Your CRM and Search Console data will show where your own peaks fall.
Does the UK Graduate route change affect our 2027 marketing?
Yes. Applications made on or after 1 January 2027 get 18 months instead of two years, with doctoral graduates keeping three years. Students starting a UK master’s in September 2027 will apply under the new rule, so any ad, brochure or page promising two years of post-study work is wrong for them. Update the wording before your September 2027 campaigns start.
When should we promote study in Germany to Kerala students?
Work back from the windows DAAD describes: early May to 15 July for the winter semester and early December to 15 January for the summer semester, though private universities may differ. Promote the winter semester from March so students have documents ready by May. Remind families that language certificates and the blocked account take time, and confirm each university’s own deadline before you publish it.
Should study abroad consultancies advertise during Onam and Vishu?
Lightly. Families gather during Onam and Vishu and talk about big decisions, so warm, low-pressure creative in Malayalam does well, but hard-sell ads around the festival days feel out of place. A better use of the festivals is to book a seminar for the week after, and promote it while families are together.
How do Gulf school holidays affect seminars in Kerala?
They decide when many parents can attend. The UAE’s 2026–27 calendar has the winter break from 14 December and the last school day on 2 July 2027, and many Kerala families fly home in those windows. Run seminars and one-to-one meetings in the last fortnight of December and on July weekends, and offer video calls to parents who stay in the Gulf.
