Commerce Graduate to AI Marketer — A Realistic Path

By Riya Nezrin, Performance Marketing Specialist · Last updated: 4 September 2026

Every year a large number of BCom and BBA graduates leave Kerala colleges into a job market that does not obviously want them. Digital marketing is the most common redirect, and it is a sound one — but the versions of this advice online skip the parts that are hard. This is the route with those parts left in.

A BCom or BBA is a genuinely useful background for AI digital marketing, because the hard part is commercial judgement: margins, unit economics and what a customer is worth. The tooling is learnable in months. Beeps Academy's AI Digital Marketing track takes about four months, three taught plus a 1-month agency internship, at ₹19,750 offline or ₹17,750 online.
Start here

Your degree is more useful here than you think

Commerce graduates tend to arrive apologetically, assuming the engineering graduate in the next seat has the advantage. In marketing specifically, that is not true, and it is worth understanding why before you start.

Digital marketing is a commercial discipline wearing technical clothing. The hard part is not operating the ad platform — the interface is learnable in a fortnight. The hard part is knowing what a customer is worth, what you can afford to pay to acquire one, whether a campaign that produced fifty enquiries actually made money, and how to explain that to someone who controls the budget. A BCom or BBA has spent three years on exactly that vocabulary: margins, unit economics, cost structures, reading a P&L.

What you will have to learn from scratch is the tooling and the technical literacy around it — tracking, data layers, the difference between a platform-reported conversion and a real one. That is genuinely learnable in months rather than years, and AI tooling has shortened it further. The commercial judgement underneath is the part that takes years, and you already have a head start on it.

The parts nobody mentions

Five things that make this harder than it sounds

Worth knowing now rather than in month two.

📉
The first role is rarely glamorous
Early digital marketing work involves a lot of repetitive execution — building campaigns, checking creatives, pulling reports. The strategic work arrives once you have demonstrated the execution is reliable. Expect the first months to be less interesting than the course.
🧮
You will need to be comfortable with data
Not statistics, but numbers as a daily habit — spreadsheets, GA4, attribution that never quite reconciles. Commerce graduates usually handle this well; those who avoided quantitative subjects find it the steepest part.
🤖
AI has raised the floor, not removed it
AI tools make a beginner faster at producing output, which means the output itself is no longer the differentiator. Judgement is — knowing which campaign to stop, which audience is wasted spend. That shifts the value of the role upward, but it also means "I can use ChatGPT" is not a qualification.
🗣️
Client and stakeholder contact starts early
Unlike many technical roles, you will be explaining results to people who are spending real money and are not always pleased. Communication under mild pressure is a core skill from the first month, not something you grow into later.
📚
The learning does not stop after the course
Platforms change constantly — features arrive, targeting options disappear, tracking rules shift. Anyone treating a three-month course as the end of their learning will be outdated within two years. This is a field for people who do not mind that.
🏢
Kerala's market has a particular shape
Much of the local demand is small and medium businesses, agencies serving them, and remote work for employers elsewhere. That means broad generalist skill is more valuable early on than deep specialisation in one channel — which is why the flagship track deliberately covers several.
The route

How the four months actually run

The AI Digital Marketing track is three taught months plus a separate internship month. Here is the shape of it.

1️⃣
Month one — foundations and the stack
How the channels fit together, SEO fundamentals, content operations, and the AI tooling used throughout rather than bolted on at the end. This is the month where the vocabulary lands and the platforms stop looking intimidating.
2️⃣
Month two — paid media and measurement
Meta and Google Ads with live budgets, GA4, tracking setup and the awkward reality of attribution. Your commerce background pays off here: you already understand what a cost per acquisition means against a margin.
3️⃣
Month three — automation and systems
WhatsApp and email flows, n8n automation, CRM pipelines and agentic AI applied to marketing operations. This is what distinguishes an AI-native marketer from someone who learned the same platforms five years ago.
4️⃣
Month four — the agency internship
A 1-month in-house internship at Beeps Digital on live client accounts — real SEO campaigns, real ad budgets, real content calendars. Included in the fee, no separate salary, ending in a completion certificate and a letter of recommendation.
Before you enrol anywhere

Three things worth doing this month

First, run a tiny campaign with your own money. Two thousand rupees on a Meta ad for anything — a friend's business, a hypothetical product, your own page. You will learn more about what the job feels like in a week of that than in a month of reading. It also gives you something concrete to discuss at interview, which most applicants lack.

Second, pick a local business and write a one-page audit. What is wrong with their Google Business Profile, what their website does not say, what a competitor does better. This is exactly the exercise agencies use to test candidates, and having done it unprompted is a genuine differentiator.

Third, decide whether you actually want marketing, or whether you want a job that pays and this seemed like the accessible route. Both are legitimate reasons, but they lead to different choices. If numbers appeal more than persuasion, data analytics is a better fit for a commerce background than most people realise. If systems appeal more than either, look at what an automation engineer does.

The flagship track runs at ₹19,750 offline or ₹17,750 online, with weekend batches for people already working. Town pages with batch detail: Kothamangalam, Muvattupuzha, Thodupuzha and Adimali. Fees for every track are listed on the 2026 fees page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Commerce graduate to AI marketer — FAQs

Can a commerce graduate get into digital marketing in Kerala?
Yes, and a BCom or BBA is a genuinely useful background rather than a handicap. Digital marketing is a commercial discipline — understanding margins, unit economics and what a customer is worth is the hard part, and commerce graduates already have that vocabulary. The platform tooling is learnable in months.
Do I need to know coding for AI digital marketing?
No. The AI Digital Marketing track requires no programming. The automation modules use n8n and similar visual tools that work without code. What you do need is comfort with numbers and spreadsheets, which most commerce graduates already have.
How long does it take to switch from commerce to marketing?
The taught course runs 3 months with live sessions twice a week, followed by a separate 1-month in-house internship, so about 4 months to certificate and letter of recommendation. Becoming genuinely good takes longer — the first working role is largely execution, with strategic work arriving once reliability is demonstrated.
What does the AI Digital Marketing course cost?
₹19,750 for the offline batch at the Kothamangalam campus and ₹17,750 for the fully online batch. Both cover the full 3-month syllabus and the 1-month in-house internship at Beeps Digital. Installment options are available, and weekend batches run for people already working.
Is digital marketing a good choice if I am not creative?
Often yes. A large part of the work is analytical rather than creative — measurement, budget allocation, testing and reporting. Creative production is one component and increasingly AI-assisted. If numbers appeal more than persuasion, data analytics may suit you even better, and it also takes commerce graduates well.
What should I do before enrolling in any course?
Run a small ad campaign with your own money to find out what the work feels like, and write a one-page audit of a local business — what is wrong with their Google Business Profile, what their website omits, what a competitor does better. Both give you something concrete to discuss at interview, which most applicants lack.
