Adimali is the last big town on the road to Munnar. Many of its businesses depend on travellers who pick where to stop while they are still looking at their phones. We don't have a centre in Adimali. Our campus is at Nellikuzhi, Kothamangalam, roughly 50 km back down NH 85. Adimali learners join the live online batch, the Saturday campus batch, or a mix of both. Why does Adimali need people who understand digital marketing?
Kerala Tourism puts Adimali 27 km short of Munnar. One of its travel features calls it the only big town before Munnar, a place where travellers break the journey and browse the shops, with the smell of spices in the air. The old Kochi–Madurai road, now NH 85, climbs past the Valara and Cheeyappara waterfalls between Neriamangalam and Adimali. Much of the traffic heading up to Munnar from Kochi comes through town.
That traffic shapes the local economy. Search any booking platform for Adimali and you will find a long list of farm stays, cottages and homestays, many of them sold as "near Munnar". Around them are spice shops, roadside eateries and small farms growing pepper and cocoa. Most are small operations. The owner is usually the one who answers the phone, replies on WhatsApp and looks after the Google Maps listing, when there is time.
The work that matters here is specific. A family in a car between Neriamangalam and Munnar searches "homestay near Munnar" or "spice shop Adimali". They look at photos and reviews, then tap the first number that looks trustworthy. The business that replies first often gets the booking. Adimali also has its own students. Mar Baselios College in Adimaly is run by the Mar Athanasius College Association, the Kothamangalam body behind MA College. It offers commerce with computer applications, a Master of Social Work and a Master of Tourism Administration. The district's college list also includes Government College, Munnar and NSS College, Rajakumari, elsewhere in this part of the high range. A tourism or commerce degree plus hands-on campaign experience is a strong combination in a region with this much tourist traffic.
How far is Adimali from the campus, and is the trip worth making?
Kerala Tourism's route guide lists Adimali as 47 km from Kothamangalam. Our campus sits just outside Kothamangalam town, near the Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences at Nellikuzhi, so the full trip is roughly 50 km. The route is simple. Head down NH 85, past the Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls and through Neriamangalam, into Kothamangalam. Then take a local bus or an autorickshaw to Nellikuzhi.
KSRTC buses to Kothamangalam leave Adimali through the day, and journey planners put the ride at a little over an hour. Add the waiting time and the last leg, and plan on about an hour and a half each way. By bike or car it is closer to an hour when the road is clear. We don't list bus times here because they change. Check the current times at the Adimali stand before you settle on a routine.
The road itself needs a mention. NH 85 has been under widening work, and the stretch around Adimali is fragile in heavy rain. An expert committee looked into the October 2025 mudslide at Koombanpara, near Adimali, and warned that the area remains highly vulnerable in future monsoons. In August 2026, a landslide near Machiplavu stopped traffic on the highway. If you plan a regular commute from Adimali, expect some days when the trip simply isn't possible.
So our advice is this. A daily commute from Adimali can be done, but it is tiring. A trip once a week is realistic. And whatever you choose, keep the online batch as your fallback, because it doesn't depend on the highway being open.
